Recycling company, TerraCycle

TerraCycle is a company that takes difficult to recycle waste, and recycles it! The company website explains 'over 202 million people are collecting in 21 countries and have collected billions of pieces of waste, raising over 44 million dollars for charities around the world.'
They take all sorts of waste from crisp packets, bread bags, coffee capsules to contact lens packets and toothbrushes.
Taking toothbrushes as an example, the company separates them into polymer type, cleans them and extrudes them into plastic pellets to create new recycled products. These new products include park benches, watering cans and bins. How innovative!
Many of the recycling programmes can win you points; each point is worth £0.01 which can be donated to a school or charity. Each piece of applicable waste from a stream of recycling, earns these TerraCycle points. You can set up your own collection point for people to bring their waste, or drop off your recycling locally.
In my household, we recycle crisp, biscuit and chocolate packets, bread wrappers at the local Tesco, and toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes at our dentist’s practice. To find out about other recycling streams, and where to drop them off for recycling, visit the TerraCycle website:
