Flying-how to do so with our planet in mind...

Today’s blog post is all about flying!
Aviation is a major producer of greenhouse gases. The gases produced contribute to global warming. For many people, flying is a necessity that they can't avoid. Professions in politics, the military, business, languages, music and sport, often require people to fly across the country or indeed around the world. More often than not, this type of travel can't be avoided. It is easy to ask people to stop flying, but it's far FAR easier said than actually done.
I took the above photograph whilst on a choir tour to Monte-Carlo, Monaco. I love photography, and I love to explore incredible places around our planet. If it is part of your livelihood, it's incredibly difficult to just stop flying. It is therefore important to me, that if I indeed do need to travel, I travel in the most eco-friendly way! For long haul flights, 'carbon emissions per passenger per kilometre travelled are about three times higher for business class and four times higher for first class' than if you fly economy, according to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (as researched by the BBC-https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-49349566)
This is calculated by the space per seat, as the larger the area you have on the plane, the larger the amount of the plane's pollution you contribute to.
Other ways to offset your carbon footprint include:
-Paying extra when you purchase your flight, to contribute towards schemes and projects that reduce CO2 in our atmoshphere.
- Travel lighter-the heavier the plane, the more fuel is needed.
-Fly direct- planes use more fuel during take off and landing.
-Choose your airline carefully-some airlines use more fuel than others!
-Use your local airport-you're creating further emissions by travelling further away to get your flight.
Some people argue that the most eco way to fly, is to just not fly at all! This isn't always doable, so at least there are some small steps we can take, to be more eco when we fly!
